Entering the New Year

As this year comes to a close and I sit on a plane going home...I have a lot to think about going into 2012.  There seems to be a lot of potential change in my future with the possibility of an upcoming deployment and the means of my financial support through the Army comes to a close.  Those two things in particular make me a little anxious about the future and fearful.

However, I've also got a lot to look forward to. New things to try out and opportunities that I'm excited to be a part of.  In particular I'm very excited to spend this next semester training and growing with a group of potential future leaders in the Journey to the Wilderness group.  I'm giving this group my everything and I have such hopes for each student that I've approached to be in the group.  I know God has great things in store for them and I really really really!!!! hope that each one will learn to humbly and willingly submit to God's authority so they can be the leaders God desires them to be.  I'm also excited for my guys, the young men I'm mentoring this spring semester.  I've already been so blessed in God allowing me to be around to see the change He's been working in their lives.  So excited!  Especially for the opportunity to help the 5 new believers grow in their love and obedience to Jesus.

My year, 2012, just like everyone else's year is full of fears, doubts, hopes and excitements.  Both the anticipated good and dreaded bad have the potential to lead me on an emotional roller coaster as I start the year.  I'm sure that most other people can relate to having similar hopes and anxieties about this next year too.  But regardless of all the uncertainties of the coming year I do know that no matter what happens God remains the same.  His Word remains the same.  Because I know this I also know that the promises in His Word also remain the same.

We can walk into the New Year this "promised land," with confidence because of the Truth of God's Word and our memory of the things God has done in our past.

Joshua 23:14
“Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.

Reflection:
1.  What are some anxieties or fears you have going into 2012?
2.  What are things you eagerly anticipate happening in 2012?
3.  What promises will help anchor you between the potential highs and lows of the new year?
4.  What acts and deeds of God from your past will help you cling to the Truth of His Word for the future?
